The Lime Kiln
The Lime Kiln is a property of unsurpassed elegance set in a magnificent location amid the lush green countryside of County Donegal, Ireland.
The Lime Kiln dates back over 150 years. Rescued from potential demolition, the building has been utterly transformed. A beautiful blend of old, new and is cleverly eco- friendly.
When entering this stone beauty you immediately feel the spacious, open yet cozy atmosphere of a well designed home. A home designed for a family who wants to be close, yet have areas for relaxing and entertaining.
The dramatic entry with high ceilings leads into the kitchen with traditional range and kitchen island with modern appliances.
The entrance leads upstairs to a mezzanine floor, with family sitting room and outdoor veranda with views of the ocean beyond.
A unique and special feature is the dramatic ground floor cave dining room and cosy fireside sitting room, with its vaulted ceilings and natural stone walls. These rooms are built onto the hillside and one wall is exposed to show off the natural rock face. A traditional stove is set into a 15 ft fireplace. One easy flick of a switch turns on instant heat for a eco friendly pellet burning fire. Homely and cozy in an instant!
The bedrooms are newly built adjoining the old Lime Kiln, however the traditional stone slab flooring gives a feeling of continuity and flow from the cave though the main level of the building. Cleverly the under floor heating gives a toasty underfoot feel. Two large double bedrooms, one with en suite shower, the other has a separate bathroom with walk in shower. Both bedrooms are light and spacious and have patio doors leading to the outdoor courtyard.
On request the spacious mezzanine floor can be set up with two single beds for visiting guests. We hope that you will enjoy this stunning home and surrounding area.
